The best thing to do for a room is to paint it in a bold, vibrant color. Outside, just a couple of coats of paint can transform a dull-looking shed or garage into something that pops.

Lowe’s Home Depot is the place many people go to when they need paint.

On the surface, it might seem like one is much like the other; the truth is, these two stores maintain fairly different inventory to suit a variety of needs (and wallets).

This is the complete guide for Lowe’s Vs Home Depot painting.

  • Lowe’s Vs. Home Depot Paint For 2022
  • Lowe’s vs Home Depot Paint Types and Prices
  • Let’s break down each store’s paint inventory individually and with the price tag attached.

Lowe’s stocks five of the most popular and well-known brands. They include:

  • Sherwin-Williams
  • Infinity – $50.98 for 1 Gallon. Paint and primer all in one with the “One-Coat Protection”.
  • Showcase — $36.98 for 1 Gallon; Stain and Scrub Resistance; Also can bear “One-Coat” label
  • Ovation PLUS — 29.98 for 1 gallon. Primer and paint in one but no one-coat coverage
  • Ceiling — $35.98 per 1 gallon; Paint and primer in one, no one-coat coverage
  • Valspar

  • Brick Transformations — $29.95 for a Kit
  • Beyond Paint: Cabinets and Countertops

    All-in-One Satin — $29.95/pt.

  • Rust-Oleum

  • Metallic Accents — $53.21 per 1-quart jar; For furniture, celing, walls, trim, doors, etc.

$22.02 for a 2-step home kit. Floor paint can transform vinyl, concrete and linoleum.

Home Depot usually carries exclusive brands that are only available in its stores.

    These include:

  • Behr
  • Marquee $45.98 a 1 gallon. Paint and primer all in one. One-coat Guarantee
  • Ultra — $36.98 for 1 Gallon; Paint, primer and scratch defense in one
  • Premium Plus — $33.98 per 1 gallon; Paint and primer in one
  • PPG
  • Timeless — $38.98 per 1 gallon; Paint and primer in one; One-coat coverage

  • Essentials — $19.98 for 1 Gallon. Paint Only (separate primer required).
  • Ceiling — $25.98 per 1 gallon
  • RustOleum also sells at Home Depot.

Rust Oleum has a large selection of spray paints in stock. These range in price between $4.48 and $6.39 for 12oz. cans.

  • Lowe’s Vs Home Depot: Paint Exterior
  • Lowe’s stocks 12 types of exterior paint.

  • Exterior House Paint
  • Exterior paint & primer in one
  • Porch & Floor Paint
  • Barn & Fence Paint
  • Garage Floor Paint
  • Garage Door Paint
  • Industrial Brushing Enamel
  • Marine Paint
  • Concrete Paint
  • Metal Paint
  • Stone paint
  • Brick Paint
  • These come from their major brands, like Valspar, Sherwin Williams, Giani and Rust-Oleum.

Exterior paints from Home Depot include:

  • Deck Paint
  • Patio Paint
  • Garage Floor Paint
  • Masonry paint
  • Brick paint
  • Roof Paint
  • Front Door Paint
  • These come from Rust-Oleum, Behr, and Romabio, as well as a brand, called Olympic, among others.

A gallon of Lowe’s Valspar porch paint costs around $40, while a gallon purchased from Home Depot’s Behr brand will cost you $32.

  • Lowe’s Vs Home Depot Paint – Paint Matching Services
  • Lowe’s, as well Home Depot, offer matching paint services.

A paint match is when you bring in an exact sample of a particular color and give it to the retailer.

Home Depot even claims that you can bring in “a color you discovered this morning” and they’ll match it.

You will get the best results if you have at least 1 inch chip.

Or bring in the item or image that inspired you.

After your computers have completed their matching job, you can apply some of the new paint to a piece of newspaper and allow it to dry. Colors may change as the paint dries.

  • Lowe’s and Home Depot will match paint from either of their stores or neither!
  • The service is completely free. They will likely find you the right paint color and you will most likely buy it immediately.

  • Lowe’s Vs Home Depot Painting: Quality + Best Overall
  • Both Lowe’s Sherwin Williams and Home Depot’s Behr makes Consumer Reports’ top paint brands list.

Sherwin Williams also shows up multiple times on the Good Housekeeping list of best interior paints (albeit for the colors, but I can’t imagine GH would feature shoddy-quality paint).

Country Living has given Home Depot’s Behr Marquee as well as PPG top marks for both coverage and durability.

However, my personal experience with paint from each store is different.

To paint my home office I used Sherwin Williams Showcase Brand Paint.

I am a regular user of Behr. But, I wanted to give Sherwin Williams’ paint a shot.

The painter’s tape had ripped off my baseboards and window trims.

Home Depot’s Behr Marquee never did that. The one-coat guarantee is absolutely truthful. And the final product looks amazing.

Home Depot Behr Marquee has my highest recommendation.

Sherwin Williams Infinity is also with a one coat guarantee, but it is more costly.

  • (I would also add that every time I have purchased Behr Marquee, it was on sale for about $39.)
  • Behr marquee, which is cheaper than the other two paints and primers in one, offers superior durability and one-coat coverage.

  • Conclusion
  • Lowe’s and Home Depot remain two of America’s largest retailers. That’s because they offer high-quality products and excellent services.

For all of your home’s painting requirements, both interiors or exteriors, as well sheds, garages, and concrete floors you can’t go wrong by visiting either store.

But, when it is about interior paints, Home Depot’s Behr marquee gets my highest recommendation, at $45.98 per gallon.
