Does Amazon Take Wic In 2022? (All You Need To Know)
Amazon has entered the perishable food delivery industry after it acquired Whole Foods.
Amazon is accepting WIC because there are millions of WIC-eligible families. Let’s find out what to do.
Amazon Will Not Accept WIC
While there isn’t any conclusive evidence for why Amazon doesn’t accept WIC for its grocery program, there are a number of possible reasons.
First, WIC guidelines are different from one state or another. Also, technology used for administering WIC was often not the same.
WIC was not a uniform experience in all states until recently due to these differences. Amazon would then have to meet all state requirements.
Additionally, WIC benefits weren’t provided by every state in the same form as a card up to October 2020. Most states still provided WIC benefits as paper checks or vouchers. They could not be used online.
Amazon Accepts Your WIC Card
Your WIC card cannot be used for food purchase on Amazon. However, Amazon Prime can give you a discounted price.
Select the “Other”, and you will be able to choose from several programs including WIC. Choose your state to begin the process. Next upload a scan of your benefits card, or your eligibility letter.

Does Amazon Accept SNAP?
Amazon does accept SNAP EBT benefits, except in Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana and Montana, for use both at Amazon Fresh and on Amazon.com.
WIC beneficiaries often have the option to apply for SNAP (formerly Food Stamps), which is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme.
Amazon SNAP uses the same rules that they use in a brick-and–mortar grocery shop. Only foods intended for human consumption can be permitted.
These guidelines and rules also apply to signing up. For more information, click here.
Amazon accepts what forms of payment?
While you can’t use WIC to purchase food items on Amazon, you have many other payment options, including the following:
Whole Foods is WIC accepted?
Whole Foods Amazon is an authorized retailer for WIC.
Amazon bought Whole Foods for $13 Billion in 2017. This made it the core of their online same-day grocery delivery service.
So even though you are technically using WIC benefits in an Amazon-owned organization, it’s still illegal as part your company’s website.
However, even if you cannot purchase Whole Foods items on Amazon Fresh using WIC at this time, you can still visit brick-and-mortar locations to receive your benefits.
Whole Foods stocks a wide range of WIC-approved foods, such as the following:
As guidelines vary from one state to the next, these examples are only general suggestions.
You should also note that Whole Foods stocks many of the items listed above. However, WIC permits only certain generic foods.
WIC-approved chicken eggs must not be of any specialty varieties, such as organic and free-range. Whole Foods is built on such specialties.
This means that it may take some careful shopping to find suitable items.
Amazon to Accept WIC Futurely?
WIC can not be purchased on Amazon right now, but it is likely to become more common in the future. In fact, WIC states have been mandated by the federal government to implement WIC cards within their state agencies by 2020. They will also need vouchers and checks.
Federal government’s Department of Agriculture states that the emphasis is placed on making benefits accessible to all recipients as quickly as possible. WIC benefits may also be purchased online.
In November 2020, the USDA reported that the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition had been given a three-year grant to research and develop a model for online ordering.
Since SNAP benefits are card-based, they can be ordered online. It’s just a matter time before WIC will also be available.
